>>> Weekly Update for 12/21/2025
What have I read, watched, listened to, and considered this week? Here's a selection:
Books:
- Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Idiot. I finished this one up in early December. An excellent concept (an innocent, moral character in an imperfect world) executed imperfectly. I agree with critics who praise the book but are bothered by how uneven it is. The characters were so intense, almost hysterical, that it felt I never had time to breathe and sink into the narrative.
- John Stuart Mill's Autobiography. I've found the first ~100 pages surprisingly readable. I'm also thoroughly jealous of how seriously Mill's father took his son's education.
Note
- I've been on hiatus for more than a month due to travel (I spent a week in Rome!) and indolence (I can be a lazy bum). I won't list all the articles and podcasts I've consumed in that time, but you can check out the usual suspects if you're interested: Tyler Cowen, Henry Oliver, Zvi Mowshowitz, Celine Nguyen, Ava from Bookbear Express, Henrik Karlsson, Nabeel S. Qureshi, ACX, etc.
